Derby Social Circle is a friendly organisation of around 40 members, who enjoy a varied programme of events throughout the year.
Formerly known as "The Derby Wine Circle" the club was formed in 1963 and was a founder member of the “East Midlands Winemaking Federation”. In the beginning, the main objective of the club was to encourage home wine making and many successes were achieved in competitions both locally and nationally.
Over time the club has become more socially minded, we now have a programme of many excellent speakers on various subjects, which are also open to visitors to attend
Members enjoy social occasions which include boat trips (both on river and canal), visits to stately homes and gardens, history walks around selected towns or villages, visits to local businesses and organisations and many more interesting and varied activities. There are also spring and autumn formal lunches, the Christmas party and theatre and cinema visits.
In 2022 the club was renamed "The Derby Social Circle".
The annual membership subscription is £24 per person for 12 months, paid on the 1st March each year, paid by bank transfer.. Visitors may attend a speaker talk for £3 per person, this would be deducted from the membership subscription if full membership taken.
Meeting are held at The Evergeen Club, Cornhill, Allestree, Derby DE22 2FT, on the first Friday of every month, commencing 7.00pm for 7.30pm..
